I do this to make sure the engine is fully ready for acceleration. Now, if I end up needing to accelerate more quickly out of a stop, I still usually wait roughly 0.25-0.5 seconds after I feel the engine start up before I accelerate. This very slight delay in acceleration is a bit annoying when I want to accelerate immediately out of a stop.
Dead Battery Dilemma. A dead battery is the most common reason why a car won’t start. When you turn the key, your vehicle’s electrical power is directed to the starter motor to ignite the engine. If your car’s battery is low on charge, it may not produce enough electrical power to start the engine. Cold weather can exacerbate battery
Also, if the engine and oil is not properly warmed up, then high revs can definitely cause harm. Of course redlining once in a while does no harm at all, and can even clear up some residue, but constantly being on full power and high revs will affect the engine. There's a reason why cars with a lot of track days need engine rebuilds more often.
Try to jumpstart it, if it starts, it's going to be a fault with your battery. If it does not start with a jump, it will be your starter or starter solenoid if your vehicle is equipped with one. Another possibility is that your battery connections are loose or corroded. Good luck!
If its not a panic stop and you have time, just smoothly rear brake, start letting the throttle go, downshift to first gear one-by-one. Front brake if needed. Also the most proper way to downshift is rev-matching, there are videos about it on youtube so you can watch.
